Tropical storm “Dodong” after “Chedeng” induced monsoon rains and left 11 dead people and stranded thousands of commuters in the flooded streets of Metro Manila overnight.
Dodong was spotted Wednesday, 290 km east of Basco, Batanes packing winds of 55 kph moving to Taiwan.
Malacañang ordered suspension of classes in Metro Manila, Cavite, Pampanga, Rizal, Tarlac, Bulacan, La Union, Pangasinan, the Ilocos provinces, Zambales, Bataan, Benguet and Mountain Province in anticipation of more floods due to monsoon rains.
PAGASA raised public storm signal number 1 over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

Classes Suspended Because of Rain
Classes were suspended yesterday in all levels of school in Metro Manila and provinces in Luzon due to rough weather brought by the southwest monsoon and tropical storms affecting the country.
The President approved the recommendation of the National Disaster Coordinating Council to suspend classes in the public and private sectors in Metro Manila and other provinces in Luzon. On Wednesday the Department of Education suspended classes in the elementary and high school levels in Metro Manila.
DepEd Undersecretary Vilma Labrador apologized to the public for giving the late advisory.
Local government units also suspended classes on all levels in Muntinlupa, Las Piñas and Malabon due to massive flooding. Malabon Mayor Canuto Oreta also sent out rescue teams to help families affected by floods.

Tropical Storm "CHEDENG" Update
As of 11:00 a.m., Monday, 06 August 2007--Tropical Storm "CHEDENG" has slightly accelerated and continues to move west northwest in the general direction of Taiwan Area.
At 2:00 p.m. Sunday, a Tropical Storm on the Philippine Sea was estimated based on satellite surface data at 1,300 kms east of Northern Luzon (19.6°N, 135.6°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of 80 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 22 kph. Moderate to strong southwesterly surface windflow prevailing over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.
FORECAST:
Western Luzon and the rest of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest and west will prevail over the rest of the country. The coastal waters along these areas will be slight to moderate except during thunderstorms.

Rain forecast to fall over Luzon next week
PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) reported a possible rainfall on the next few weeks over Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.
According to PAGASA’s report, a low pressure area is now forming within the Philippine Area od Responsibility.
This rainfall may perhaps solve temporarily the water crisis within Luzon triggered by natural climate change and man-made global warming.
